Greetings, neighbors: according to the calendar, today is the Vernal Equinox, and with leap year in consideration, that means spring is officially here, although we have been enjoying the weather for weeks.

Relay for Life team rally is Wednesday

The team for Relay for Life of Southern Washington County will host a team rally Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Mount Nebo United Methodist Church, 134 S. Main St. in Boonsboro. Park behind the church.

‘Youth Only’ event

Middle and high school students are invited to a “Youth Only” casual worship service Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 64 S. Main St. in Boonsboro. 

The service, led by Jacob Rockwell, will include music, reflection and God’s word. All denominations are welcome. Enter the social room through the door on Cemetery Lane.

Chili cook-off planned

The time is drawing near for Trinity Lutheran Church’s annual chili cook-off and talent show.  Enter a batch of your best chili to be evaluated by local celebrity judges. Show off your best vocal, comedic or dance talents, or just come and eat and enjoy.

Scholarships available to Boonsboro students

Several scholarships are offered to Boonsboro High School seniors through the Community Foundation of Washington County. 

Applications for the BHS Class of 1970 Alumni Scholarship, the Joseph Ellis Memorial Scholarship, the South County Fund Scholarship, the Dwight Scott Award and the Ryan Myers Memorial Scholarship are available in the guidance office or by going to

Citizens group to meet April 18

Citizens for the Preservation of Pleasant Valley will meet Wednesday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. at Rohrersville Ruritan Schoolhouse, off Md. 67.  The topic for the meeting will be Lyme disease. All are welcome to attend.

Library news

The Boonsboro Branch of Washington County Free Library is the coolest place in town for activities for children and adults. On tap this week, Toddler Time today at 11 a.m. for those ages 18 to 36 months. Those ages 3 and older are the intended audience for Wednesday’s story hour at 3:30 p.m. Smaller tots (younger than 18 months) are invited to pull up a lap for lap sit on Friday at 11 a.m.  All ages are welcome at Saturday’s story time Saturday at 11 a.m.

Today, Dr. William Bodenheimer will talk about arthritis at 6 p.m. Also today, the Afternoon Book Club will hold an organizational meeting at 3 p.m.
