Scholarship established in memory of Chris Smith

March 19, 2012

The Community Foundation of Washington County has announced the creation of the Chris W. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The award will be made annually beginning in 2013 to a student graduating from a learning-support program of Washington County Public Schools.

Smith, also known as the “Hulk,” excelled in his job monitoring emotionally disabled children  at Williamsport High School.

Following a bike accident in May 2010, Smith’s family and friends received an outpouring of support from students whose lives he had touched.

When he died in September 2010, the opportunity to remember his legacy through support of “his” students was started.

The scholarship will be available to one student each year who overcomes the challenges of emotional and behavioral disabilities, and plans to continue his or her education beyond high school.

Contributions to the fund may be made payable to the Chris W. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o The Community Foundation of Washington County MD Inc., 33 W. Franklin St., Suite 203, Hagerstown, MD  21740, or by clicking the “donate” button on its website at www.cfwcmd.org. Be sure to list Chris W. Smith Memorial Fund in the memo or comment section.
