Berkeley Springs 4, Frankfort 1

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Tyler Holt threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead Berkeley Springs past Frankfort.

Holt helped his own cause with a two-run double in the first inning. Brett Fultz and Preston Hovermale each had an RBI single for the Indians.

Jefferson 12, Goretti 7

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. — Kevin Proctor had two hits and three RBIs for St. Maria Goretti in a loss to Jefferson.

The Gaels fell to 1-2 on the season.

Mercersburg goes 1-1

BALTIMORE — Mercersburg Academy defeated host St. Paul’s 6-5 after falling 4-2 to Haverford in a three-team round-robin tournament.

Against St. Paul’s, the Blue Storm (4-1) scored all six of their runs in the fifth inning on three hits, two walks, an error and a hit batter, as they overcame a 4-0 deficit. David Glass started the rally with a double and Lorenzo Vasquez and George Molner helped to keep it going with RBI singles.

Starting pitcher Mike Collins (1-0) went 4 2/3 innings for the win.

Pat Lien and Brad Wastler each had an RBI single for Mercersburg in the loss to Haverford, which fell 13-3 to St. Paul’s in the other game.

PREP SOFTBALL

Berkeley Springs 7-1, Frankfort 5-11

FRANKFORT, W.Va. — Berkeley Springs split with Frankfort, gaining its first win of the season.

Brittney Stotler, Destinee Moore and Morgan Wachter each had two hits in the opener as the Indians (1-2) broke loose for six runs in the third inning.

In the nightcap, Berkeley Springs took a 1-0 lead but Frankfort scored in each of the first three innings.

PREP TENNIS

Gaels sweep team titles

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. — St. Maria Goretti won the girls and boys team titles at the Jefferson Invitational.

The Goretti girls defeated host Jefferson 6-1 in the final after beating Clarke County 7-0 in the first round. Ashley Robinson won the singles title for the Gaels, and she teamed with Lauren Winalski to win the doubles title.

The Goretti boys downed Berkeley Springs 7-0 in the final after beating Clarke County 7-0 in the first round. Aaron Hawk won the singles title for the Gaels.

Kyle Polcynski and Devin Forman won the doubles title for Jefferson, which beat Clarke County 7-0 in the third-place match.

In the girls third-place match, Clarke County got by Berkeley Springs 4-3.



YOUTH SOCCER

Clear Spring Blast win, tie

The Clear Spring Blast beat SCCSA Union 3-0 and tied Elite Hotspurs 1-1 at the Baltimore Mania Soccer Tournament.

Corey Ellis had 19 saves on the day for the Blast. Juan Resindez, Bradly Mills, Tiago DeSouza and Jonothan Henesy each had a goal and Ryan Schnurr had an assist.
