One person was taken to the hospital after a dump truck accident in front of 19107 Burnside Bridge Road Wednesday morning, Washington County Sheriff's Deputy Timothy Atwell.

The accident happened when the driver of the dump truck, heading southbound on Burnside Bridge Road, went off the road slightly, overcorrected, and then hit the guardrail and slammed into a tree on the other side of the road, Atwell said.

The driver of the vehicle was taken by a friend to Meritus Medical Center, Atwell said.

The northbound lane of Burnside Bridge Road was blocked off in the area, and police were directing traffic in the southbound lane for more than two hours.

Two tractors pulled the truck from off the side of the road.

Police responded to the accident at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday and cleared the scene at 11:50 a.m.
