Roger W. Hughes, 75, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 12, 2012, at his home.

Born Aug. 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Roger Beard and Lola Hughes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy C. Kendall, in 1995.

Roger was a U.S. National Guard veteran, having served during the Vietnam War.

Roger worked for 20 years at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa. Afterward, Roger worked for the State of Maryland National Guard as a groundskeeper in Edgewood, Md., until his retirement.

He is survived by two sons, Mark King of West Virginia, and Richard Hughes and his wife, Suzy, of Chambersburg; a daughter, Pamela and her husband, Tony Stull, of Fayetteville, Pa.; four sisters; one brother; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Peggy Hughes; one sister; and one grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Md. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate.

Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the funeral home.
