Western Heights orchestra to participate in festival

Students from the Western Heights Middle School Orchestra will attend the 2012 Western Maryland Large Ensemble Festival at North Hagerstown High School on Tuesday, March 27.

The festival will begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day.

Every orchestral ensemble in the county will be performing for ratings and comments.

The main focus of the festival is to provide a learning environment for the ensembles and directors in a concert performance setting.

From this experience, ensemble members can gain insight on performance practices and musicianship to improve and enhance their playing as an ensemble.

The festival gives students an opportunity to gain other teacher’s perspectives on how they are performing. It also gives students a chance to compete as a team so that they might see how their ensemble compares to those in other schools.

Every ensemble will be judged by three professional adjudicators in the concert hall. Each adjudicator will offer written and recorded comments.

The festival is held in conjunction with the Maryland State Music Festival. A superior rating for the ensemble will qualify them for the state festival later in the year.
