The Samples Manor Cemetery Committee will start spring cleaning for Easter. 

The committee asks residents who have placed memorial items such as flowers and statues on the graves of loved ones to remove and collect these items by March 15, or the committee will dispose of them. 

Church to accept food donations

The Samples Manor Church of God, 2128 Harpers Ferry Road near Dargan, will accept nonperishable food items at the church Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Mount Briar church to hold revival

Mount Briar First Church of God, 4705 Mount Briar Road in Keedysville, will hold a revival from Sunday to Wednesday at 7 p.m. each night. 

Pastor Ernest Witmer will preach Sunday and Monday, with music by Men in Black Sunday.  Pastor Mark Halliday will preach Tuesday and Pastor Joseph Burdette will preach Wednesday. Music will be performed each night.

Workshop planned on African-American grants

The Maryland Commission on African-American History and Culture and the Maryland Historical Trust will hold a workshop regarding grants available through the African-American Heritage Preservation Program for fiscal 2014.

A workshop is being offered in Washington County on Monday, March 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church’s Fellowship Hall, 18313 Lappans Road in Boonsboro.

Ruritan to hold potpie dinner

District 12 Ruritan, at the corner of Manor Church and Breathedsville roads, will hold an all-you-can-eat potpie dinner Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

The menu includes chicken and beef potpie, choice of applesauce or coleslaw, roll, tea and coffee. Desserts will be sold.  Tickets cost $7 for adults $3.50 for children.  This is the last dinner until fall.

Rockland Woods school PTO plans auction

The Rockland Woods Elementary PTO will hold an auction Saturday, March 24, at Next Dimensions in Funkstown.

Doors open at 4 p.m., with dinner served at 5:30. A live auction starts at 7. A silent auction will also be offered. Tickets cost $15.
