Mrs. Toms served as director of Christian education with United Church of Christ Churches throughout the United States, last working at Trinity United Church of Christ in Waynesboro.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Waynesboro, where she served as past elder and past president of the congregation. She also was a member of Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary, where she was past president. She served on the board of directors for Waynesboro Red Cross and Children’s Aide Society of Franklin County. Mrs. Toms also was active with Waynesboro Council of Churches and served on the Educational Committee for Hoffman Homes Inc., based in Littlestown, Pa. She also was a member of National AARP.
She is survived by three stepgrandchildren, Julia Mohn of Waynesboro, Carla Everhart of Cary, N.C., and Angela Mongan of Greencastle; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Tope of St. Louis; and a nephew.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Jane T. Reichard, who passed away Dec. 28, 2005.
Services will be Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 W. North St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Sue D’Heedene officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends one hour before services at the church.
