Two people were taken to Meritus Medical Center after a Jeep Cherokee and a Chevrolet Cavalier crashed on Cole Road near the Golden Corral restaurant Tuesday evening, according to a 911 spokesman.

The 5:40 p.m. crash occurred when the driver of the Cherokee pulled into the path of the Cavalier, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The Cherokee was leaving the parking lot of Target and was attempting to enter the Valley Mall parking lot when it was struck by the Cavalier, the release said.

The Cherokee rolled over and came to rest on its side. Two people in the Cherokee were taken to the hospital for possible minor injuries, the sheriff’s office  said.

The driver of the Cherokee was cited for failure to yield right of way, Deputy 1st Class Joel Footen said.
