MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The cause of a Berkeley County apartment fire in which a man died last week remains undetermined and under investigation, Assistant State Fire Marshal Patrick Barker said Monday.

Jonathan P. Daily, 24, was found on the kitchen floor of his apartment at 92 Blairton Road when firefighters responded to his home for a reported fire Thursday evening, Barker said.

Barker said he had not received a report on Daily’s autopsy.

The fire appears to have originated in the kitchen, Barker said.

The fire was not visible from outside the upstairs apartment, but firefighters found the unit filled with smoke when they arrived shortly after the incident was reported at about 5:20 p.m.

Services for Daily, a 2005 graduate of Jefferson High School, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, U.S. 340 at Halltown Road, between Charles Town and Harpers Ferry, W.Va., according to his obituary.
