North High students to perform 'Wizard of Oz'

The North Hagerstown High School music department will present the musical “The Wizard of Oz.”
There will be five evening performances and one afternoon performance.
Opening night will be Thursday at 7 p.m.
Performances will continue every night through Tuesday, March 13.
On Saturday, there will also be a matinee performance at 2 p.m.
There will be a concession stand and raffle items. 
Tickets cost $10 for adults, and $7 for seniors and students.

Young at Heart
Young at Heart will meet Thursday at the Pacific Ocean Buffet, 908 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, at 11:30 a.m.

Two men led the way in weight loss for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446 at last Wednesday’s weigh-in.
The thinner winner, Ernie, recorded a weight loss of 3.8 pounds, while Henry lost 2.2 pounds.
Joyce C. won the ha-ha prize.
Marie H. presented a program based on the book “Naturally Thin.”
Meetings are held Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown. Weigh-in is from 8:45 to 9:20 a.m.

Losses for the week totaled 49 1/2 pounds for TOPS Chapter 0077. 
Barb Hall, Valerie Eccard and Sue Young were the best TOPS losers. The best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Mildred Hluchy, Nancy Itnyre and Deloris Hays. 
The no-no snack is snack crackers.
Kathy Renner won the monthly get-r-done prize for KOPS, Trudy Heather won for TOPS. 
Deloris Hays presented the program on portion control, emphasizing the importance of consistency.
Orders are being taken for T-shirts for State Recognition Day. 
The group voted to collect small stuffed toys for Hugs for Kids. 
Mary Lou Edmonds will conduct the March contest, hot air balloons, which will be a team activity.
Election of officers will be today.
The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.

Church to hold dinner theater
The First Christian Church Chancel Choir will hold a dinner theater event at its fellowship hall Saturday, beginning with dinner at 6 p.m.
The Frederick County Arts and Communication Academy will then present a concert of the Broadway musical “Jekyll and Hyde.”
The dinner menu includes a choice of baked chicken or beef brisket with sides, drinks and dessert.
Tickets cost $20 per person in advance or $25 at the door. Payment is by cash or check only.
The church is at 1345 Potomac Avenue in Hagerstown.

Gordon’s Grocery to help humane society
On Saturday, March 24, Gordon’s Grocery owners John Gordon and his sister, Cynthia Milsap, will host a wine-tasting event with Monument Fine Wines from noon to 6 p.m. to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County. 
Gordon’s Grocery is at 101 Cypress St. in Hagerstown.
Donations of food, toys, non-clumping cat litter and other animal-related items will be collected in front of the store for the humane society.
