Mr. Alvin G. "Short" Harshman, 86, a resident of The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, Pa., and formerly of 9001 Larry Drive, Greencastle, died at 3:43 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born March 26, 1925, in Quincy Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Aaron and Margaret C. (Hartman) Harshman.

Mr. Harshman attended Clay Hill School.

He and his wife, Erma P. (Fahrney) Harshman, were married July 21, 1945. They lived at their Larry Drive residence from 1970 until June 2011, when Mr. Harshman entered the nursing home.

He was a farmer and worked in Kauffman Station on the family-owned farm for 25 years. In 1970, he purchased Leiters Hardware Store, Greencastle.

Mr. Harshman was one of the founding members and helped build Calvary Bible Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, A. Dennis “Denny” Harshman, Antrim Township; two daughters, Norma Robinson, Greencastle, and Gwen Wildeson, Chambersburg; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Robert Harshman.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Calvary Bible Church, 3845 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, with the Rev. Richard Overcash and the Rev. Robert Fitz officiating. Burial will follow in Brown’s Mill Church, Kauffman Station.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.
