James Francis "Mad Dog" Durst, 72, of Greencastle, formerly of Hagerstown, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at Manor Care in Chambersburg.

Born Feb. 21, 1940, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lester Francis and Bessie Lee (Houdersheldt) Durst.

Mr. Durst retired as a corrections officer from MCTC, Hagerstown, and later worked as a security guard for White Stone Group, Emmitsburg, Md.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Dawn (Mangus) Durst; one son, James Jason Durst (Angie) of Martinsburg; one daughter, Rhonda Arlene Durst of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Jeremy D. Wetzel of Hagerstown and Brian L. Wetzel (Wendy) of Clear Spring; three stepdaughters, Alison L. Blair (Timothy) of Greencastle, Crystal G. Gammeter of Hagerstown and Louise A. Turner (Wesley) of Greencastle; three sisters, Laura Belle, Betty and Carol; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Mark David Durst.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Tim Fisher officiating.

Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
