The Rev. William Paul Heefner, 94, of Wolfsville Road, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Golden Living Center, Hagerstown, Md.

Born May 28, 1917, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late William Burham Heefner and Susan (Mentzer) Heefner.

He attended Waynesboro High School.

He was employed by Landis Machine Co. of Waynesboro.

He helped start the Hagerstown Rescue Mission and Camp Tohiglo. He was a member of the Fellowship of Bible Churches and was pastor of Black Rock Bible Church before he retired.

Paul touched a multitude of people’s lives through his ministering.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lottie Jane (Toms) Heefner, whom he married March 2, 1940; son, William Heefner and wife, Mary Ann; brother, Ken Heefner and wife, Jane, and son; sister, Mary Payne and son; grandchildren, Deborah Golden and children, Tammi and Ralph Garnand, and children, Staci and Matt Decker and daughter; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; niece, Linda Smith; and nephew, Danny Smith.

Services will be Thursday, March 1, 2012, at 2 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, Md., with the Rev. Dennis Sleglaff and the Rev. Matthew Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
