Hawks explode to win season opener

WINCHESTER, Va. — Steve Chrzanowski allowed just two hits in five shutout innings and Danny Morris hit a two-run homer as Hagerstown Community College opened its season with an 11-2 win over Shenandoah University on Sunday afternoon.

Chrzanowski struck out five and walked none before giving way to the bullpen. Five HCC pitchers scattered seven hits on the day and didn’t allow a run until the ninth inning.

Dylan Dunn had three hits and two RBIs, Cole Sellers had two hits and three RBIs and Eric Schanzenbacher added two hits for the Hawks, who leave for a mixer in Vero Beach, Fla., on Thursday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Shepherd trio earn WVC honors

PRINCETON, W.Va. —  Shepherd senior guard Katie Biggs, junior forward Emily Daniel and freshman center Gabby Flinchum received postseason honors from the West Virginia Conference.

Biggs and Daniel were named to the All-WVIAC second team, while Flinchum was named to the All-Freshman Team.

Biggs is second on the team in scoring with an 11.7 average, while Daniel leads the Rams with 13 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. 

Flinchum is second on the team in rebounding (5.6) and third on the team in scoring (8.4).

Shepherd sweeps pair

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Shepherd finished its stay at the Pioneer Classic on Sunday with a 4-2 win over Lees-McRae and a 4-1 triumph over Kentucky Wesleyan.

Senior infielder Delaney Bell went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while junior outfielder Bianca Biondillo added a 2-for-3 effort with an RBI to pace the Rams (3-1) against Lees-McRae.

Freshman Savannah Snyder went 2-for-4  and drove in two runs, while senior  Kris Durham added a 2-for-4 effort with a solo homer to lead the Rams against Kentucky Wesleyan.
