WAYNESBORO, Pa. — It’s not quite Hershey, but for one night, you could possibly describe Waynesboro as Chocolatetown, USA.

The Franklin County, Pa., community’s annual Chocolate Extravaganza will showcase the town’s confectionery delights while raising money for the MainStreet Waynesboro Inc. organization.

MainStreet Waynesboro Inc. focuses on economic development and downtown revitalization.

“This is the one fundraiser we have that specifically supports MainStreet programs,” said Heather Arestad, an administrative assistant for the organization.

The sixth annual event will be held on a Friday this year, instead of a Saturday. Organizers moved the day so that they could schedule the Neil Wright Band for “big-band” sound.

“They are always a huge crowd pleaser,” Arestad said.
Chocolate Extravaganza will be held Friday, March 9, starting at 7 p.m. at the Waynesboro Country Club. Guests can expect a variety of sweet treats at the event themed “Some Enchanted Evening.”

Returning vendors to this year’s event include Burgundy Lane Bed & Breakfast, Despina Leos Candy Kitchen, TranquiliTEA, Waynesboro Country Club, The Waynesburger and Zoe’s Chocolate Co.

The owners of Christine’s Café on Main Street and Lisa McCoy, a future business owner in the downtown area, have also agreed to provide their products for the first time, according to a news release.

Door prizes will be available, as will champagne. Arestad said more appetizers will be available than in the past, so guests can have options other than sweets.

Black-tie attire is welcome but not required.
