W.Va woman shoots man in the arm during domestic dispute

February 24, 2012

A man was shot in the arm by his girlfriend after a domestic dispute early Friday just outside Hedgesville, W.Va., according to West Virginia State Police.

Timothy Butts, 32, came home drunk at 56 Lemen Court and began arguing with his girlfriend, Kimberly Jean Painter, 31, prior to the shooting, which happened about 1:40 a.m., police said in a news release.

Butts grabbed Painter by the throat, choked her and threatened to wake up her son and “make him watch as he cut her throat and let her bleed out,” police said.

Painter grabbed a .357-caliber pistol from a linen closet, police said. Butts shoved Painter, who then fired the pistol at Butts, striking him in the right arm, police said.

Butts fled the residence, but was later found at the Food Lion in Hedgesville, where he was treated by paramedics for the gunshot wound, police said.

No arrests have been made, and the incident is still under investigation, police said.
