Two drivers taken to hospital after crash on Fairview Road

CEARFOSS — Two people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle collision on Fairview Road about two miles west of Cearfoss on Friday morning, Deputy 1st Class David Junkins of the Washington County Sheriff's Office said.

A Chevrolet Cobalt LS heading eastbound on Fairview Road collided with a Kia Sedona LX van that was turning left into a driveway at 16427 Fairview Road, Junkins said.

The van then knocked over a mailbox and a newspaper tube and scraped a utility pole, he said.

The driver of each vehicle was taken to Meritus Medical Center, Sgt. Robert Whittington of the Washington County Sheriff's Office said. There were no passengers in either vehicle, he said.

No damage was done to the utility pole, Whittington said.

Police responded to the accident at 9:35 a.m. Friday and closed the eastbound lane of the 16400 block of Fairview Road upon arriving on the scene.

A firetruck from the Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Co. and an ambulance from Hagerstown Community Rescue Service were also at the accicent scene.

Both vehicles were towed away, the scene was cleared and the road reopened by 10:20 a.m. Friday.
