Melvin B. Stenger Jr., of Mercersburg, Pa., passed away at 7:35 p.m. Feb. 22, 2012, at Williamsport Retirement Village, Williamsport, Md.
Born in Hagerstown, Md., he was a son of the late Melvin B. Sr. and Helen R. Wiebel Stenger.
Mr. Stenger was a graduate of Shippensburg University. He taught at Forbes Roads School for one year. He then began his career at James Buchanan High School, where he taught in the English and business education departments for 38 years. He also coached basketball during his teaching career.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.
He was an avid photographer, both personally and professionally. His many interests included his love of dogs and music, and he studied history, which he shared with his family and friends.
Melvin was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mercersburg. Other memberships include: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6241 and American Legion Post 517, both of Mercersburg, National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and Tuscarora Teachers Association.
