Mrs. Phyllis Marie Rickett of Jacksonville, Ala., born in Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital, Anniston, Ala.

She is survived by her husband, U.S. Army Col. William “Bill” F. Rickett Jr. of Jacksonville; three children, Marie “Toni” A. Gray and her husband, David, of Spanish Fort, Ala., William “Bill” F. Rickett III and his wife, Rose, of Watkinsville, Ga., and Clarissa M. Surls and her husband, Robert, of Largo, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jason Gray, Ryan Gray, Christopher Gray, Bret Robinson, Brittany M. Surls, Dayna Waddell and Elliot Rickett; two great-grandchildren, William Yves Gray and Anna Claire Marie Waddell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rickett was a faithful member of Jacksonville First United Methodist Church, and a charter member of the Friendship Sunday school class. During the years of her children’s youth, she was a den mother and a Girl Scouts leader. She was a devoted Army wife and mother, and loved her family dearly. Mrs. Rickett was a Just Older Youth member at Jacksonville First United Methodist Church, a member of Ruth Circle, and loved to play bridge with the Friday bridge group. She was also a member of the Gadsden Rose Society and the Jacksonville Garden Club.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard L. and Catherine McCauley Sprecher.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. at Jacksonville First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. John Simmons and Ted Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service, in the church parlor.
