Helen Mary Harden, 80, of Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at her home.

Born Nov. 2, 1931, in Altoona, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Violet Shawley Cornelius.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harden.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She previously worked at Salem Avenue School and Maugansville Elementary School.

For the last 12 years, she delivered roses to the local nursing homes on Mother’s Day. The last year she went, her great-grandson, Alex, and her daughter, Darlene, went with her.

She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Smith and husband, Jeff, of Hagerstown, and Darlene Stiffler and husband, Scotty, of Parkton, Md.; a son, George Doster Jr. and wife, Mary, of Crawford, W.Va.; two sisters, Janet Gabelt of Connellsville, Pa., and Dolly Leonard of Dunbar, Pa.; four grandchildren, Michele Brengle, Shannon Stiffler, Jeffrey Smith and Jena Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Jessica Brengle, Hillary Brengle, Alex Stiffler and Bo.


She was preceded in death by two sisters, Violet Fuller and Anna Mae D’Amico; and two brothers, Joseph Cornelius and Whitey Cornelius.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Clark D. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
