Garagiola, Delaney sparring
Two Democrats in the 6th Congressional District race — John Delaney and state Sen. Robert J. Garagiola — have been waging a news release war in the last several weeks, including:

  • Garagiola’s campaign accusing Delaney of an “assault on collective bargaining” because of a reference in the “Blueprint for Maryland” Delaney helped create.
  • Delaney’s campaign alleging that Garagiola is relying mostly on “special interest PACs and corporations” for campaign money.
  • Delaney’s campaign calling for Garagiola to release a list of his previous lobbying contracts.
  • Garagiola’s campaign asking the Federal Election Commission to investigate whether Delaney tried to hide a $2,400 donation he made to Republican Rep.Andrew P. Harris.
Delaney also released a campaign platform that he calls his “5E’s Action Plan.” Some of its components are:
  • Employment: Make significant infrastructure investments; reform the tax code and immigration policy; encourage community banking and lending.
  • Education: Rely less on standardized testing; ensure adequate funding for community colleges.
  • Environment: Focus on green-energy jobs; reduce fossil-fuel dependence.
  • Energy: Create a comprehensive national energy policy; expand a Production Tax Credit for clean energy.
  • Ethics: Extend the ban from one year to five years before former representatives can lobby; reform redistricting; set term limits of 12 years for representatives and senators.
