KEEDYSVILLE — A Keedysville man has been charged in the burglary of a home Tuesday on South Main Street, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

Charles Douglas Zimmerman, 24, of 18 Mt. Vernon Drive, was charged with one count each of first-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, theft of $1,000 to $10,000 and malicious destruction of property, according to a deputy at Washington County Detention Center.

Deputies said they were called at 2:40 p.m. to a house at 54 S. Main St. in Keedysville for a report of a man who was inside the home.

The homeowner told deputies that she came home and found a man going through a jewelry box, the release said. The homeowner told the man to leave before she called police.

Deputies said Zimmerman was captured a short time later with the help of Maryland State Police.
