Ruth Katherine (Shores) Lechman Schulte, 85, of Clear Spring, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at her home.

Born July 26, 1926, in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Tarey and Callie Mae (Shinault) Shores.

She retired as a librarian at the Glen Echo Naval Base in Potomac, Md.

Ruth had a passion for crocheting. She loved to collect stamps and coins.

Ruth was Catholic by faith.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frederick Earl Schulte II.

Ruth is survived by a sister, Mae Fleming and husband, Gene, of North Carolina; three grandchildren, TammyJo Glass and husband, Phil, James William Embrey IV and Joe Lechman; three great-grandchildren, Stephanie Glass, Kevin Glass and Andrew Embrey; a sister-in-law, Molissa Derk of North Dakota; her beloved Chihuahua, Diva; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Joseph “Oakie” Lechman; a daughter, Mary Mae Zagrodnichek; a sister, Gracie Anne Dowell; and two brothers, Herbert Dean Sykes Jr. and James William Sykes.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the dedication and care given to Ruth by the nurses of  Hospice of Washington County.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., where she will be laid to rest beside her husband following the service.

Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, is in charge of the arrangements.
