Homeless Resource Day to take place March 3

The Washington County Homeless Coalition will hold Homeless Resource Day Saturday, March 3.

Each homeless person at the event will be assigned an individual who will assist them in finding resources that are available. 

The coalition is in need of volunteers to serve as one-on-one helpers.

Discovery Station

Mary Licht and Pat Beard will present “The Magic of Air” Saturday at 11 a.m. at Discovery Station in downtown Hagerstown. Registration is suggested as the class size is limited to 12. The program is recommended for those in grades three through five.

Run planned

The City of Hagerstown, Washington County Recreation Department and Community Free Clinic will hold the St. Patrick’s Day Run for Your Luck 5K Run/Walk Saturday, March 17.

The registration fee costs $25 before March 17 and $30 on race day. The first 200 registrants will receive an event T-shirt.

Net proceeds will benefit the clinic.

The run is being held in honor of the clinic’s former medical director, Dr. Dan McDougal, who died from Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The 5K course is 3.1- mile race through the downtown area.

The race starts at 10 a.m. and the awards ceremony will be held at The Maryland Theatre, starting at 11 a.m.

Spring dinner

Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave., will host its spring dinner Saturday, March 10, from 1 to 6 p.m.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $3 for those ages 6 to 10. Dessert is included in the price of the ticket. Tickets will be available at the door.

The menu includes ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, sauerkraut, applesauce, cranberry sauce, rolls, beverage and dessert.

An elevator is accessible at the Summit Avenue entrance.

Travelogue series continues at South High

The Kiwanis Club of Hagerstown will present its fourth program of the travelogue series featuring “The Silk Road, China to Turkey” on Wednesday, Feb. 29.  The program, at South Hagerstown High School auditorium, begins at 7:30 p.m.

Marlin Darrah will present the “Silk Road,” including Istanbul and other legendary sites. Traveling by camel or on foot, traders and warriors of old transported treasures and wares along the road.

Single admission tickets are sold at the door on show nights. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students. Proceeds help the Kiwanis Club support charities in Washington County.
