Emma E. (Grant) Johnson, 91, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Md., where she had been a resident for nearly four years.

Born July 25, 1920, in Butler, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob J. and Marie (Schwartz) Grant of Butler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Johnson of Butler.

She was a homemaker for most of her life. As a young woman, she was employed as a waitress and then as a window trimmer for Murphy’s before working in the Butler Junior High School cafeteria for several years.

She was a member of the Leitersburg Senior Center and the Blue Mountain Senior Group at Smithsburg, Md. She had been a long-term resident of Blue Mountain Estates prior to her move to Fahrney-Keedy. She truly enjoyed her years spent at Blue Mountain Estates and the many friendships that developed.


She had been an active church member for many years. She was a member of North Street Church of God, Butler; Oak Hills Christian Church, Butler; and finally a member of World Wide Church of God.

She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, reading and traveling, and especially enjoyed spending time with her sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey J. Johnson and wife, Carol, of Thurmont, Md., and John J. Johnson and wife, Marilyn, of York, Pa.; four grandchildren, Margaret A. Johnson of Waynesboro, Pa., Grant P. Johnson of Thurmont, Curtis A. Johnson and wife, Cindy, of York, and Craig E. Johnson and wife, Emily, of York; and one sister, Marian McMillin of Butler.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, May Flick and Anna White.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with Pastor Daniel Gehr officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
