Robert Allen Britsch, 63, Waynesboro, Pa., passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family, on Feb. 16, 2012, after a yearlong battle with lung and brain cancer. 

Born June 8, 1948, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Robert Beryl Britsch and the late Marianne (Ward) and David Sheeley. 

He and his wife of 35 years, Ellen (Mulcahy) Britsch, were married June 5, 1976. They moved to their current residence in 1985.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Shannon (Britsch) Zamudio, and her husband, Pascual Zamudio III, Royal Air Force, Lakenheath, England; daughter, Kathleen Rose Britsch, Waynesboro, and daughter, Janine (Britsch) Cooper and her fiance, Troy Ridgley, Greencastle, Pa.; one brother, Gary Britsch, and his wife, Tobi Britsch, Leonard, Mich.; and a sister, Michelle Britsch, Gulf Breeze, Fla.
He is also survived by grandchildren, Caroline Norah Zamudio, Pascual Zamudio IV (due this March), Steve Cooper, Cody Cooper, Dylan Cooper, Jeremy Cooper and Neely Cooper.


A 1967 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School, he also attended Penn State University.

Prior to his retirement in 2008, he was employed for 28 years by Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove, Pa. In the early 1970s he relocated as a member of the quality management team for the startup of new plant operations at Grove’s hydraulic crane facility in Conway, S.C. He also served in various offices of the Grove Management Club, including president. He culminated his Grove career as a senior quality engineer. He also worked as a quality engineer for Jerr-Dan Corp., Greencastle. In his early career, he was employed as an apprentice at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro.

An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the Waynesboro Fish and Game Protective Association, National Rifle Association, Blue Ridge Sportsmen’s Club, Fraternal Order of Elks, Eagles Club Inc., Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, and the Legion Home Association of Waynesboro, Post 1235.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. John Bateman at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro. A rite of committal will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
