Young playwright festival deadline is Thursday, March 1

Middletown, Va. —  Wayside Theatre is hosting the T. Carter Fussell Young Playwright's Festival. Deadline for submissions is Thursday, March 1.

The first-place winner will receive a professionally produced public staged reading of their play performed on the Wayside Stage, a $100 savings bond and two tickets to a play of his or her choice during the upcoming season.

The winning author will go through an editing process with a member of the Wayside artistic team, and will be part of all rehearsals for the public staged reading of their play, which is  performed on the Wayside stage Monday, April 30. The professionally produced staged reading is free to the public, and followed by an audience talkback with the author, moderated by Wayside's artistic director, Warner Crocker.

The second place winner will receive a $50 savings bond and two tickets to a play of his or her choice during the upcoming season.

Student writers must be high-school age and attending public, private or is home schooled. There are no residency requirements but participants must have  transportation to and from Wayside Theatre for approximately four rewrite session, as well as one week of rehearsals leading up to the performance of their work.

To enter, please send three copies of the script to: Wayside Theatre, Attn: Cephe Place, P.O. Box 260, Middletown, VA 22645. Submissions  must be postmarked by Thursday, March 1, 2012.
