HAGERSTOWN — Alexis Small had an emphatic finish to her final regular-season game on Senior Night at South Hagerstown.

Small grabbed 18 rebounds and added five steals to help the Rebels beat North Carroll 61-39 on Tuesday in a Maryland high school girls basketball game.

“I go up for the ball with two hands,” Small said. “I pull it back down and throw an outlet pass to somebody on our team for transition. All of us worked together as a team. We all know our roles.

“We played hard all the way through tonight. All we had to do was work hard on defense and the offense would come. We have come a very long way.”

Small’s performance made some great final impressions.

“It was a good win for Alexis Small,” South coach Nate Naylor said. “She has been getting a lot of rebounds pretty much all year. She will battle on the boards.”

Tayana Stewart and Katrice Dickson fired in 20 points each for South (15-7). Stewart also had nine rebounds and five steals. Chelsey Scott added 13 points and six assists for the Rebels.

“We didn’t execute well offensively, but we played hard,” Naylor said.

“One good thing about good basketball teams is that they find a way to win even when they don’t play well,” Naylor said. “Chelsey Scott has been playing good defense all year and that starts our transition offense. I feel pretty good about our team going into the playoffs. We have as good of a chance as anybody to win our region.”

Shelly Lister scored 12 points, while Allison Shinsky added nine points and seven rebounds for North Carroll (11-11).

“We have got some of our kids injured,” North Carroll coach John Brown said. “We wanted to get through tonight healthy. Some of our younger players got some experience. I was impressed with the speed of South Hagerstown. If you fall asleep for a second, the ball is in the hoop.”

The Panthers led for most of the first quarter until the Rebels rallied for a 13-12 lead after the first eight minutes. Small led the way with eight rebounds in the first quarter.

Stewart scored eight points in the second quarter to lead the Rebels to a 31-21 advantage at the half.

Dickson scored eight points in the third quarter as the Rebels raised the lead to 46-24.
