Soil conservation district conducting annual tree sale

The Washington County Soil Conservation District is conducting its 24th annual tree sale through March 21.

Tree descriptions and pictures, as well as information about all the products being offered are available at the district website at www.conservationplace.com

Trees will be available for pickup during early April, in time for spring planting season. Anyone ordering trees will be contacted by mail with the specific days, times and location of where to pick up their trees.

The district will be offering a wide variety of evergreen, hardwood and ornamental trees. Red Liberty apple, yellow goldrush apple, Redhaven peach, and Bartlett and Bosc pear trees will be sold. Herbert and Blue Jay blueberry bushes and Red Latham raspberry bushes are also being offered. 

One each of the apple and pear trees, as well as the blueberry bushes, have to be purchased for better pollination. Redhaven Peach trees may be purchased as single trees and will pollinate themselves.

The district has distributed more than 315,000 trees over the past 23 years.

Call the district office at 301-797-6821, ext. 3, to receive a tree sale order form in the mail. Order forms can also be printed from the website or can be obtained at the office at 1260 Maryland Ave., Suite 101, in Hagerstown.
