ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — Elizabeth Smith of Hagerstown was awarded the Arthur E. Landers Jr. and Hilda Combs Landers Endowed Scholarship at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

The scholarship was established in 1996 through an estate gift by the Landerses to benefit students with academic merit and financial need.

Smith, part of the Class of 2014, is majoring in sociology with a minor in mathematics. She is a member of the women’s club soccer team and the St. Mary’s College Student Ambassadors.

Smith intends to pursue a career in the field of counseling, working with young adults.



WINCHESTER, Va. — Eric Stottlemyer of Hagerstown was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Shenandoah University.

He is majoring in chemistry in the School of Arts and Sciences.

He is the son of Robert and Cindy Stottlemyer.



WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Bethany Garnand of Hagerstown, a junior biology major, will play outfield for the Lycoming College softball team this spring.

Garnand graduated from Smithsburg High School.

She is the daughter of Tammi and Ralph Garnand.



CLEMSON, S.C. — The following area students were named to the president’s list for the fall semester at Clemson University:

Sarah Elizabeth Louderback of Hagerstown, who is majoring in marketing

Ian Michael Gayman of Shippensburg, Pa., who is majoring in general engineering

Rachel Cornish Edelstein of Frederick, Md., who is majoring in secondary education (English)

Megan Elizabeth Middeke of Jefferson, Md., who is majoring in animal and veterinary sciences

Megan Marie Hunsberger of Mount Airy, Md., who is majoring in psychology.



BURLINGTON, Vt. — Christopher Howard of Cascade was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Champlain College.

Howard is majoring in computer forensics and digital investigations.



CALDWELL, N.J.  — Chelsea Hoover of Hagerstown was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Caldwell College.



KETTERING, Ohio —  Kathleen Nicole Yeary of Hagerstown was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Kettering College.

She is majoring in human biology.



HARRISONBURG, Va. — The following area students were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Eastern Mennonite University:

Jennifer Shenk, a junior from Sharpsburg

Leah Ott, a senior from Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

Rebecca Stouffer, a senior from Smithsburg

Katarina Napfel, a sophomore from Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
