Betty Lou “Bertha” Shoemaker, 75, of Hedgesville, W.Va., passed away Friday. Feb. 10, 2012, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born April 22, 1936, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Lucy Belle Stotler Miller.

She was a child-care provider and a caregiver providing services to many families throughout her life.

She was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her daughter, Christine L. Eichelberger and husband, James, of Hedgesville; special niece, Debra Fultz, whom Betty helped raise, of Berkeley Springs; grandson, J.L. Eichelberger and his fiancée, Rebecca Powers, of Martinsburg; stepgranddaughter, Tracey Funk and husband, Mark, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; stepgranddaughter, Tammy Hinkle and husband, Travis, of Hedgesville; great-grandson, Aiden Eichelberger; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport, with Dr. Jack Rudy officiating.


The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, MD 21795 on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open Tuesday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.
