Mr. Richard Hugh “Louie” Mullenix, 91, of Smithsburg, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 10, at Meritus Medical Center, near Hagerstown.

He was the husband of the late Isabelle Elliott Mullenix, who preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 1998.

Born Dec. 13, 1920, in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late Louis Henry Sr. and Kitty Marie Trovinger Mullenix.

Louie was a graduate of Hagerstown High School and a veteran of World War II, serving four years in theU.S. Navy.

In early years, Mr. Mullenix was a driver for Standard Oil but retired with more than 30 years of service to theU.S. Postal Service.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Hagerstown. Additionally, he was a member of Georges’ Club, a West End Hagerstown childhood group; Harry Zeigler Post, Veterans of Foreign War 6319, Greencastle; Dixon Troxell Post, American Legion 211, Funkstown; Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 694, Hagerstown; as well as National Association of Letter Carriers.


Surviving are his son, Gregg T. Delauney of Smithsburg; and his loyal sidekick, “Tucker.”

Besides his parents and wife, Louie was preceded in death by brothers, Louis H. Jr. and Curtis E. Mullenix.

Friends may call at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. 

The funeral service will be Thursday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Martin H. Horn of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greencastle, will officiate. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
