Alfred A. “Al” Henneberger Jr., 79, of Wolfsville Road, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at his home.

Born Sept. 12, 1932, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Alfred A. Henneberger Sr. and Evelyn G. (Bitzberger) Henneberger.

He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, Class of 1950, and attended Johns Hopkins University.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy upon the USS Dextrous (AM-341) and reaching the rank of quartermaster 1st class.

He was owner and operator of Milmar Plastics Inc. of Leitersburg, Md., for more than 40 years.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wolfsville, Md., and past member of the Mason Dixon Barbershop Chorus (SPEBSQA).


Al will be remembered by many throughout the Smithsburg community for his 17 years of service as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for BSA Pack and Troop 14 of Smithsburg. He was very proud of being a father to three Eagle Scouts and grandfather to one Eagle Scout.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Karel M. (Schmid) Henneberger, whom he married Aug., 23, 1958; sons, Alfred A. Henneberger III of Augusta, Ga., Mark W. Henneberger of Arlington, Va., and Douglas W. Henneberger of Waynesboro, Pa.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local Salvation Army or local Hospice in memory of Al.
