Mary and Jim Young celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 27, 2012.
The Youngs attended and met at the American University in Washington, D.C., after Mr. Young completed four years in the Air Force.
They were married at the United Methodist Church in Bemus Point, N.Y.
Mrs. Young taught in Virginia, New York and Maryland schools before retiring in 1998.
Mr. Young taught in Bemus Point for 11 years, where he was nominated for Outstanding Teacher in America. After they moved to Hagerstown, Mrs. Young taught fourth and fifth grade. and Mr. Young was an elementary and middle school principal for 21 years. He also retired in 1998.
They moved to Sarasota, Fla., in 2002.
They have two daughters. Lisa, who lives in Sarasota, and is an elementary school teacher; and Christine, who lives in Hagerstown, where she is an executive with Bank of America Merchant Services.
