BOONSBORO — Brunswick started quickly and never looked back on Wednesday en route to a 48-34 victory over Boonsboro.

Brunswick’s Zack Spriggs pinned Louis Minoglio in a minute flat at 152 pounds in the opening bout of the match to give the Railroaders a 6-0 lead they never relinquished.

Boonsboro (9-11) got on the board at 160 as Davon Clark scored a major decision over Jacob Heaton before Brunswick (9-5) took control by winning the next three matches.

“We’ve had some discipline problem with some of the kids and we weren’t a full team tonight,” Brunswick coach Scott Tilles said. “Some of the JV kids had to wrestle on varsity and I thought they wrestled hard.”

Chad Cockerham, Adam Fitzwater and Matt Jones each pinned their opponents and then received two forfeits to push the advantage to 36-4.

Kashyap Patel pinned Gage Nicodemus in 1:32 to give Brunswick a 42-4 lead, almost before Boonsboro could blink.

“We’ve been giving up forfeits all year,” Boonsboro coach Mike McGill said. “We knew we were going to be spotting these guys some points tonight.”

The Warriors mounted a comeback by winning five of the match’s last six bouts.

Boonsboro picked up three Brunswick forfeits before Charles Anoman recorded the Warriors’ first pin of the night at 132 to close to within 42-28.

Brunwick’s Travis Bartholomew notched the Railroaders’ sixth pin to put the match out of reach.

“We tell the kids that once they get their guy on their back, you have to keep them there,” Tilles said. “That really helped this week since we had to forfeit a couple.”

Even though Dave Wilbraham closed out the match with a pin for Boonsboro, McGill said the Warriors could have done a little more.

“I really thought we could win some of the upper matches,” McGill said. “We just came up a little short.”
