FORT STEWART, Ga. — A Hagerstown man serving with the Third Infantry Division was killed Sunday night in Georgia when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car, a spokesman for Fort Stewart said Wednesday.

Pfc. Christiaan Bush, 22, died in the accident that occurred on base property at 11:59 p.m., spokesman Kevin Larson said Wednesday.

Bush was riding north of Ga. 119 near the Noncommissioned Officer Academy when a car attempted to pass a pickup truck and another car, Larson said.

The car and Bush’s motorcycle collided, and the motorcycle slid under the car, Larson said. Both vehicles caught fire, he said.

The accident remained under investigation by the fort’s military police, Larson said.

Bush enlisted in the Army in 2011 and arrived at Fort Stewart in September, a news release from the fort said. He was a tank crewman assigned to the 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, the release said.

Bush was a graduate of Smithsburg High School.
