Hagerstown OKs ordinance to sell three houses to Habitat for Humanity

February 07, 2012

The five-member Hagerstown City Council unanimously approved an ordinance to sell three city-owned properties to Habitat for Humanity of Washington County during a special voting session Tuesday night.

All three homes, located at 25 E. Lee St., 33 Elizabeth St. and 226 N. Locust St., will be sold as a package deal for $100,000, in accordance with the ordinance that takes effect March 9.

The city purchased the homes in 2006 and 2008 with Community Development Block Grant funds, renovated them and then listed them for sale through the CDBG Single Family Homeownership program.

Habitat for Humanity plans to make further improvements to the properties, including an addition to one of the homes, before turning them over to new owners, according to city documents.
