For the third year in a row, Hospice of Washington County Inc. will host a 5K walk/run to remember and honor loved ones.
Unlike the first two events that were held in the fall, this year’s event will take place in the spring.
The Spring HWC 5K will be Saturday, April 21, starting at 9 a.m. at Martin L. “Marty” Snook Memorial Park in Halfway.
Registration is under way and costs $10 per person.
Participants can choose to raise funds for Hospice of Washington County or just participate in the chip-timed race. Each participant who chooses to raise funds can set up their own website to email friends and family or post on their Facebook pages. Everyone who raises $250 will earn a race-day shirt, which will include the names of any loved ones they are honoring or remembering on the back of the shirt. Special fundraising incentive prizes will also be awarded in categories such as most funds raised.
This year’s race will once again “piggy-back” on the Racine MultiSports Hagerstown 5K and Duathlon and will take place at Halfway Park. Last year, 100 participants walked or ran for Hospice of Washington County.
All of the net proceeds from this year’s 5K will remain local to benefit The Frederic H. Kass III, M.D. Endowed Scholarship Fund at Hospice of Washington County.
This spring, Hospice of Washington County will award scholarships to local seniors or college students who are pursuing careers in the healthcare field.
