SAXTON, Pa. — Tyler Green hit five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 23 points for McConnellsburg on Monday in a loss to Tussey Mountain.

Evan Appleby had 13 points — including two 3-pointers — and three assists, Tony White had seven points and eight rebounds and Jesse Swope had three assists for the Spartans (6-12).

Schreiber makes Liberty squad

Zach Schreiber, a 2011 North Hagerstown graduate, earned a roster spot as an outside linebacker on Liberty University’s football team in a recent tryout.

Schreiber was a medical redshirt at McDaniel College last season. He will take part in spring practices at Liberty in March.

Haislip wins tourney title

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Navy senior Dustin Haislip, a 2007 Musselman graduate, helped lead the Midshipmen to their fourth straight All-Academy Championship team title on Sunday at the eight-team tournament.

Haislip, who was seeded second at 141 pounds, defeated No. 1 seed Carter McElhany of Air Force 3-1 in the finals.

Haislip finished 3-0 for the tournament, improving his season record to 4-3 and his career record at Navy to 27-26.

At Musselman, Haislip was a three-time West Virginia Class AAA state champion and a two-time Herald-Mail All-Area Wrestler of the Year.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Mercersburg Academy finished in third place at the Division III U.S. Squash National High School Team Championships with a win over Greenwich (Conn.) Academy JV.

Sarah Allen, Nikki Rhyne, Laura Rahauser, Val Quan-Miranda and Kathleen O’Malley all won their matches for the Blue Storm (8-8).
