Larry James Slater, 64, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Dec. 18, 1947, of Asheville, N.C., to the late James William and Mildred McGraw Morrison Slater.
He was employed by Frederick Medical Supplies of Frederick, Md., until his retirement in 1996.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a member of BPO Elks, Winchester, Va.; Lucketts Volunteer Fire Department, Lucketts, Va.; Morris Frock Post No. 42 American Legion, Hagerstown; and a lifetime member of VFW W.D. Byron Post No. 1936 and AMVETS Post No. 10, Hagerstown.
Survivors include wife, Julie Duane Gantt Slater, married Sept. 7, 1977, of Hagerstown; sister, Sandra P. Panganiban of Martinsburg, W.Va.; sister, Connie M. Straker of Littlestown, Pa.; brother, Danny E. Slater Sr. of Inwood, W.Va.; special friends and caretakers, Melody and Jim Brown of Hagerstown; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at 2 p.m.. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.
