Leon Norris “Pappy” Slifer, 89, of Lakin Avenue in Boonsboro, passed from this life on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born on Nov. 19, 1922, he was the son of the late Clarence Elmer and Lulu Edith (Norris) Slifer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie E. (Fling) Slifer, on March 15, 2008.

Mr. Slifer was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army.

He was a retired employee from Fairchild Corporation.

He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Ann Flory, and her husband, Terrance, of Hagerstown.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawna Darlene Slifer in 2004.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be held privately.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
