Pianist Edward Newman will be the guest soloist for the next Maryland Symphony Orchestra Masterworks concert, "Viva la France." Concerts are at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at The Maryland Theatre, 21 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. Tickets cost $5 to $83. 2. Feeling a poem's words

The regional competition will be held for Poetry Out Loud, a national recitation contest for high school students, at 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, City Park, Hagerstown. Call 301-739-5727.

5. Cycling for a cause
