Thieves steal copper from U.S. Cellular tower site

Thieves made off with about $3,500 worth of copper after they broke into a U.S. Cellular tower site earlier this week, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

Lt. Mark Knight said the theft was reported at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday at the tower site in the 14700 block of Crown Lane.

Crown Lane is northwest of Hagerstown Regional Airport near the Maryland-Pennsylvania line.

Knight said the incident was similar to other copper thefts that were reported recently.
He said no suspects have been identified.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office reports incidents

The following incidents were reported Wednesday by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office:

  • At 12:45 p.m., a copper theft in the 2500 block of Riser Road in Hancock.
  • At 1:23 p.m., loose change and CDs were stolen in the 20300 block of Locust Grove Road.
  • At 4:50 p.m., copper was stolen in the 14700 block of Crown Lane.
  • At 7:43 p.m., a stolen check was cashed in the 600 block of Valley Road.
  • At 9:13 p.m., vandalism in the 12900 block of Licking Creek Road in Big Pool.

  • At 2:03 p.m., a traffic accident at Commerce and Hood streets in Chambersburg.
  • At 3:39 p.m., a pedestrian accident in the 300 block of West Main Street in Waynesboro.
  • At 4:12 p.m., a traffic accident at Coldbrook and Stanley avenues in Chambersburg.
  • At 6:02 p.m., a traffic accident in the 1500 block of East Main Street in Washington Township.
  • At 6:13 p.m., a chimney fire in the 7900 block of Nyesville Road in Greene Township.
  • At 6:17 p.m., a traffic accident in the 14900 block of Sherwood Drive in Antrim Township.
  • At 6:43 p.m., a traffic accident in the 200 block of Lincoln Way East in Chambersburg.
  • At 8:32 p.m., a traffic accident at Long Lane and Burkholder Road in Antrim Township.
Wednesday:
  • At 8:16 a.m., a shed fire in the 13600 block of Main Street in Fort Loudon.
  • At 10:38 a.m., a trash-can fire in the first block of Penncraft Avenue in Chambersburg.
