HAGERSTOWN — Mill Street between Baltimore Street and South Cannon Avenue at the site of the former Washington County Hospital complex was closed Tuesday.

Mill Street, as well as East Baltimore Street between King and Mill streets, had been closed weekdays since Jan. 9 as demolition work at the hospital site continued.

The street had been scheduled to reopen after 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27,  according to a traffic advisory from the City of Hagerstown's website, www.hagerstownmd.org.

Demolition work was briefly halted on Friday, Jan. 13, due to complaints of dust in the area from the work, but resumed the following Monday, according to a published report in early January. One of the buildings at the site collapsed later that weekend, but a spokesman for the demolition contractor said the collapse was planned and controlled.
