Rules clinic planned

January 30, 2012|Kristy Smith | Around Boonsboro

Seems as though we haven’t even had winter yet, and planning is under way for the sport of summer: baseball.

Maryland District 1 Little League will hold a rules and umpire clinic beginning Tuesday, Feb. 7, and running each Tuesday in February.

Coaches, umpires, team parents and others are encouraged to attend and hear about the rule changes going into effect this season. There are bat changes of which parents should be aware.

The classes will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and will be held at the Church of Christ on Leitersburg Pike.

For more information, call Denny Hockensmith at 301-416-2841or Dave Grams at 301-791-1687.

Sharpsburg Little League

Continuing the theme, Sharpsburg Little League will hold girls softball sign-ups at the Sharpsburg Bible Church community center at the corner of South Potomac and West Antietam streets in Sharpsburg.

All players should bring a birth certificate or copy of their birth certificate and three proofs of residency dated May 2011 to Feb. 1, 2012. To speed up registration, go to www.sharpsburgll.net and copy all registration forms.

For more information, call G.E Ingram at 240-675-8140.
Newly added to Sharpsburg Little League will be Junior League Girls Softball.

Building on the success of last year’s softball league, which culminated in sending two teams to state tournaments in Ocean City, this year the league will start a junior league for girls ages 13 and 14 with a 1997 and 1998 birth year. It will be a league with divisions in Jefferson County, Charles Town and Ranson in West Virginia.

Sign-ups for all programs will be held Thursday and Friday, Feb. 9 and 10, from 6 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Saturday, Feb. 18, from noon to 4 p.m.

For more information, call G.E Ingram at 240-675-8140, or go to www.sharpsburgll.net.
