Korean karate classes offered

Shiloh United Methodist Church, at 19731 Shiloh Church Road in Hagerstown, will offer an adult Korean karate class on Tuesdays, beginning Feb. 7, from 6 to 7 p.m.

The class is for those in ninth grade through adults.

Participants can join at any time. Classes will be ongoing.

The class will be taught by the Rev. Ken Fizer, who is a fifth-degree black belt.

The monthly cost will be $20 per person. The family rate will be $35 (two or more from the same family). This is a nonprofit organization.

The class will offer fitness, confidence building, energy, security, flexibility, coordination, muscle tone and fun.

Classes will be taught in a safe, Christian atmosphere.

Basket bingo to benefit W. Md. Hospital Center

The Western Maryland Hospital Center Auxiliary will host a basket bingo Sunday, March 25, at the Williamsport Fire Hall. 

Doors open at 11 a.m., lunch will be served at noon and bingo begins at 1 p.m.

Tickets cost $30 for one or $50 for two. Lunch is included in the ticket price. Tickets are limited.

There will be 25 regular games, four early bird games for cash, five special games, and more than 50 door prizes and raffle items. The grand raffle will be worth $3,000. Some of the items to be raffled includes a TV stand, Longaberger baskets, flat screen TV and Blu-Ray DVD player (sponsored by Spicher’s).

Henry took the weekly thinner-winner honors for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446 with a loss of 4.2 pounds.

Carole was close behind, weighing in at 3.8 pounds lighter.

Before Mary presented a program on the importance and benefits of eating enough servings of fruits and vegetables each day, she reported that the chapter has a net loss of 36.2 pounds to date in 2012.

Thelma described the changes made in her household to facilitate weight loss and better health.

On Wednesday, Joyce will present a program on exercise, focusing on seated exercises. Members are asked to bring two paper plates and two cans of food (small enough to hold in the hand) to use as weights.

The chapter meets Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown. Weigh in is from 8:45 to 9:20 a.m.

Food drive

Allegany Dental Care will hold its fifth annual food drive in February.

It will accept donations of nonperishable food items at its three locations.  All food collected will be donated to Food Resources Inc.

The locations are 19418 Leitersburg Pike (across from the new post office and Lyles Center); 22109 Jefferson Blvd. (near Smithsburg);  and 17719 Virginia Ave. (near the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard). The offices are open between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
