Military comptrollers group has help for area students

January 29, 2012

The Western Maryland Chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers has announced its 17th annual scholarship award. The chapter will award one scholarship of $1,000 to aid a deserving student majoring in financial management to achieve his or her baccalaureate educational goals.

The area of consideration will again include Frederick County and Washington County high school seniors. The program also recognizes employees at Fort Detrick, Md., and their immediate family members in their academic pursuits.

The group of military and civilian professionals are dedicated to the highest government financial ethics. To this, it recognizes the need to encourage and assist those students who wish to pursue a course of study in financial or business-related areas.

A scholarship package, showing the guidelines for recognition and evaluation of each scholar, as well as application forms, are available at each area high school, and the Frederick County and Washington County boards of education.

The package may also be obtained by contacting Karen Wolff at 301-619-6194 or writing to ASMC, P.O. Box 1906, Frederick, MD 21702-0906.

Applications for this award are to be mailed and postmarked by March 13. The  scholarship committee will determine the final ranking and make a selection during the week of March 26, and the decision will be announced soon after.
