Streets near hospital demolition site scheduled to reopen

January 27, 2012

HAGERSTOWN — East Baltimore Street between King Street and Mill Street and Mill Street between Baltimore Street and South Cannon Avenue are expected to reopen at 6 p.m. today, according to a traffic advisory from the City of Hagerstown's website, www.hagerstownmd.org.

Both streets have been subject to closure at different times every weekday for the past three weeks as demolition work on the former Washington County Hospital complex continued, according to the advisory.

According to a published report earlier this month, demolition work was briefly halted on Friday, Jan. 13, due to complaints of dust spreading from the site, but it resumed the following Monday. One of the buildings collapsed that weekend, but a spokesman for the demolition contractor said the collapse was planned and controlled, according to the report.
