Jefferson County Prosecutor Ralph Lorenzetti has announced his candidacy for a second four-year term.
To date, Lorenzetti has no announced Democratic opponent in that party’s May 8 primary.
The filing deadline ends Jan. 28.
Prosecutors in counties the size of Jefferson earn $96,600 a year.
Lorenzetti, 64, was elected as Jefferson County’s top lawyer in 2008 to succeed long-time Prosecutor Mike Thompson.
He served in the office for 23 years, as an assistant prosecutor and later as chief deputy prosecutor.
Lorenzetti said he has seen the office grow from two part-time assistants to eight full-time assistant prosecutors and two full-time victim advocates.
